Get a Grip
How do you introduce an effective Badminton grip to young players?
I needed to know how to prevent my own children from using a ‘panhandle grip”.
My problem was I didn’t know what practices and tasks to do before others 🙁
I wish I’d known about using Wallwork and starting with below shoulder strokes
This presentation was given at the Badminton Ireland Coaches Conference 2019
The slides are accompanied by 4 videos that can all be found at the bottom of this post. Each video will give you some ideas to create an effective badminton grip from the beginning of a player’s journey.
If you would like to read more about attending this great Conference then please click this image. Hopefully, I will see you there next summer.
The introduction of gips \& prevention of inappropriate ones should be the goal of every coach when working with novice players
Are the practices and tasks you use develop the grips/holds that that are effective
Inappropriate grips will inhibit and in some cases prohibit the development of strokes and tactics
The way a person first holds or grips a racket can and should be influenced from the very first lesson
Changes later can be very difficult !
