Glenn Whitney

Glenn Whitney helps sports coaches become better leaders and business leaders become better coaches. His approach in sports is grounded in the conviction that coaches should maintain the primary relationship with their athletes, especially when it comes to building mental toughness, mood management and recovering from setbacks. The work coaches do can often be supported by a psychologist like Glenn but the psychologist should play a secondary, mentoring type of role.

Glenn has worked extensively with Olympic-level coaches through UK Sport’s highly innovative and successful multi-disciplinary training programs. He also works with elite coaches on a one-to-one basis across a wide range of sports including cycling, rowing, judo and swimming.

Glenn works as well as a confidential advisor to business leaders from many of the world’s prominent companies, focusing on developing social and emotional intelligence in individuals, teams and across departments.

Educated in the U.S. and the U.K., Glenn has an MSc. in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics, an M.A. in Counselling Psychology from City University of London (Regent’s College) and a B.A. in Psychology from Gettysburg College (Pennsylvania). He is a UKCP-registered psychotherapist and a regular contributor to the Annual Review of High Performance Coaching & Consulting as well as other publications.

Glenn started his professional life as a journalist, including seven years as a correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, where he covered sports, finance and other topics. He was jointly awarded The Overseas Press Club Award while at The Journal.
