How do you to introduce effective grips to young players?
I needed to know how to prevent my own children from using a ‘panhandle grip”. My problem was I didn’t know what practices and tasks to do before others 🙁
I wish I’d known about using Wallwork and starting with below shoulder strokes
This presentation was given at the Badminton Ireland Coaches Conference 2019
The slides are accompanied by 4 videos that can all be found at the bottom of this post
If you would like to read more about attending this great Conference then please click this image. Hopefully, I will see you there next summer.
The introduction of effective gips and the prevention of inappropriate ones should be the goal of every coach when working with novice players. Think carefully if the practices and tasks you use are developing the grips/holds that that are effective.
Inappropriate grips will certainly inhibit and in some cases prohibit the development of strokes and tactics. The way a person first holds or grips a racket can and should be influenced from the very first lesson. Changes later can be very difficult !
